Just a couple of days ago, Andrew Bird randomly started teasing something called “Bloodless.” And as he hinted, we got to hear what exactly this was today. Unsurprisingly, it’s a brand new single! The new track comes just about a week after Bird debuted another new song “Archipelago” to the free Songs For Swing Left compilation. And much like that one, “Bloodless” appears to come from a similar political mindset.
To set the tone for the song, Andrew Bird shared this statement:
“We find ourselves in a cold civil war. Everyone is playing their part too well. Certain actors are reaping power and wealth from divisiveness. Echoes of the Spanish civil war when fascists and clergy win because they put up a united front against the individualistic and principled (yet scattered) left. We can turn this ship around, but need to step back and be honest with ourselves about what’s happening while it’s still relatively bloodless.”
The new song debuted with a nicely shot, sparse black and white video which you can watch down below. Whether or not “Bloodless” is part of an upcoming album or simply a one-off single is anyone’s guess at the moment. Andrew Bird has often released whatever he wants in whichever form he feels suits it best. So perhaps this will remain a simply great single.

“Bloodless” will be released on a 7” single December 14. Pre-order it here.
