All the way back in October last year, Beirut announced their newest album Gallipoli. It came with a long note about the making of it as well as the title track/lead single. Since then, the horn-adorned indie group have only shared one other song, a brief instrumental called “Corfu.” Now that the album is just a few weeks away, the band have shared the next official single “Landslide.”
“Landslide” more or less sounds like Beirut at their core (minus the lush horn work). It’s a smooth, synth-led track that builds and builds to beautifully arranged pieces. As instruments come in and the vocals get a bit layered, the song starts to really shine. It’s mellow, yet still altogether catchy. It’s also another indication that the band are in full command of their consistent sound. Already Gallipoli is shaping up to be a nice addition to the Beirut catalog. Then again, we’ve barely heard much from it. So as for what the bulk of it entails, we’ll have to wait another three weeks. In the meantime…
