Vortex of Old Men Once upon a time, one dude met another dude who had a passion for music in the same manner. These two began playing, writing and developing a sound that these other 2 dudes said was cool. Then these 4 dudes began playing, writing and developing a sound that other people liked. Then they quit doing these things together so they could do this with others. THEN one day these 4 dudes decided to play, write and develop a new sound, but kinda like the old sound but new and other people think it is cool.

Danny Gokey: The Hope Encounter
Nov 1 @ 7:00 pm

Ovens Auditorium will host Danny Gokey for his first-ever headline tour, The Hope Encounter, featuring Tauren Wells and special guest Riley Clemmons on Thursday, November 1 at 7 p.m.

“It’s been a dream of mine since American Idol to headline my own major tour,” says Gokey. “That platform opened my eyes to the power of mixing hope with entertainment. Hearing a message of hope at just the right time can truly make an impact in someone’s life. Getting this opportunity is a dream come true! I love touring, being with fans, and seeing first-hand how the music can encourage people in a time in our society where hope (mixed with a little fun) is so desperately needed.”

The Grammy nominee Gokey became a favorite of millions of fans as a Top 3 finalist on Season 8 of American Idol. His first album, My Best Days, debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. Since then, the Wisconsin native has celebrated a series of #1 album debuts, including his first award-winning holiday album, Christmas Is Here, as well as singles including the recently Gold-certified “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” and “Hope In Front of Me.” Gokey’s latest album, Rise, reached #1 on the Billboard Top Christian Album chart and garnered his first Grammy nomination.  Its title track, marked his third, multi-week, multi-chart #1 single.

Tauren Wells, a four-time Grammy nominee, debuted Hills and Valleys — his first full-length solo project — in July 2017, just prior to hitting arenas on the Lionel Richie/Mariah Carey 22-city “All the Hits Tour.” The album’s title track was one of the most streamed Christian songs of 2017, according to Spotify, and currently registers over 50 million total streams. The official music video and lyric video have combined views exceeding 25 million. His single, ‘Undefeated,’ also served as the soundtrack for the internet-famous Dude Perfect’s “World Records Edition” episode on YouTube which, along with another Dude Perfect video featuring the No. 1 single ‘Love Is Action,’ has garnered more than 100 million views combined. Wells made history earlier this year by landing singles in both the #1 (“All My Hope (ft. Tauren Wells)” by Crowder) and #2 (“When We Pray”) spots simultaneously on national radio charts.

Riley Clemmons is an 18-year-old, Nashville-based singer/songwriter signed to Capitol Christian Music Group. Her debut single, “Broken Prayers,” skyrocketed at radio upon its release in early 2018 and the music video earned over a million views on YouTube in less than two months. The single has now crossed over ten million global streams. Most recently, Riley was featured on the song and music video for Social Club Misfit’s radio single “Misfit Anthem” and mainstream DJ, Tritonal’s “Out My Mind.” Her upcoming full-length debut album releases August 3, 2018.

Bob Dylan
Nov 9 @ 8:00 pm

Bob Dylan’s career has lasted the better part of fifty years now. That’s pretty remarkable. What is more impressive is that Dylan has remained not only active for almost all of that period, but controversial. He has never gotten by on sentimentality or nostalgia. He has never repeated his successes. For better or for worse, Dylan has always pushed his work ahead.

Bob Dylan is as great a songwriter – ah, let’s not beat around the bush – as great an artist as America has produced. But he’d be the first to tell you that he is part of a long line, one link in an endless chain. You can follow his influence backward or forward according to your own inclination. Or you can spend a long time just listening to Dylan’s five decades of contributions. Wherever you go into it, and whatever you get out of it, your time will be well spent – Bill Flanagan – New York, 2007

They have been working together ever since to find where disparate influences come together to create melody forward, hard hitting, genre bending rock ‘n roll. When Particles Collide has built a reputation as a must see band one show at a time touring all over the US and Canada during school vacations when Sasha, a former high school chemistry teacher, could take time off from work. They are currently a full time, independent touring outfit living out of their 2014 Ram Promaster. Mitchel Evan, Moses Jones, Sam Rae and Kelsey Ryan
May 16 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

A night of original Americana, country and folk from 4 great songwriters.

Mitchel Evan is an American songwriter from Richmond, Virginia that is dedicated to keeping authentic music and honest storytelling alive. His journey from Virginia to Colorado and back again has resulted in two EP’s and a full length album with his former band, Mitchel Evan & The Mangrove, as well as his first solo release, the ‘Little Horse Tapes’. Evan has recently relocated back to his hometown of Richmond, VA and has just released his sophomore solo album, ‘Nostalgia’ – out everywhere now!

Moses Jones is an Americana band infused with blues and country. The unique sound is rooted in gospel, rhythm & blues, rock, soul, and country. The combination of these diverse styles creates an instant connection between the band and audience.

Sam Rae represents proud midwestern blood as she ventures around the US with her cello, guitar and voice. Her musical explorations have lead her on many cross country tours to as far as Valparaíso and Santiago, Chile where she studied, performed and taught music. She has most recently toured and performed with Brandi Carlile, Gregory Alan Isakov and the Posies. Her passions are rooted in alternative forms of collaboration and communication as she explores music as a universal language.

Kelsey Ryan is a Texas born and Tennessee raised singer-songwriter from Charlotte, NC whose storytelling and visceral emotion cut through the bullshit to give you something real. Raw sincerity mixed with pure sass, Ryan’s music harkens the legacy of tough-as-nails country women. Kelsey is currently wrapping up recording on her debut album, The Trigger dropping this summer.

The Situationals

The Situationals put a modern spin on post-punk powerpop.

They are guided by their love of ‘80s alternative, early NYC punk, new wave, and contemporary indie. They add to these influences their own strong songs, smoldering hot vocals, and driving instrumentation.

We’re taking the stage for two sets! One set of originals, and one set of covers!

Sunset Cassette will also be performing!

Sunlit indie rock from Charlotte.
