Renelvis (free show)
Dec 20 @ 9:00 pm

Renelvis emerged in Charlotte during the early 90s, claiming to be just another Elvis Presley impersonator. While he may not look or talk like your typical Memphis bluesman, all one has to do is listen to him belt out “Hound Dog” or watch him swivel his hips, and you’ll be convinced that The King is back.

Rene will be performing a mix of his original songs and some Elvis favorites, as well as telling stories from his book.

Modern Primitives, Broke Jokes, Poet Radio
Jan 9 @ 10:00 pm
Modern Primitives: Modern Primitives have been growling around the Charlotte scene since 2011, honing their techniques by focusing on their prolific live performances. Their sound is a premium blend of loose psychedelia, wild rock, and just the right amount of boozy, hungover blues. These personalities work as one, culminating in the smirking, melted madness between garage glam and psych-rock.
Broke Jokes: Like it or not, it’s Broke Jokes
Poet Radio:
Poet Radio began in a Northern Michigan basement, when two former members of The Vermeers, frontwoman and songwriter Madison Maxwell and drummer Ryan Cole got together to turn some of the former’s original acoustic songs into something poppy and electric.
Since adding synth, Poet Radio’s duo sound has expanded into some exciting new territory.
If you’re a fan of the Zombies, the Doors, the Black Angels, Siouxsie and the Banshees, or even the White Stripes, check out Poet Radio. Follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, get your copy of the new EP Horseflesh on Bandcamp now!

Courtney Lynn & Quinn, Kaska Sun, David Taylor
Jan 12 @ 9:00 pm

Courtney Lynn and Quinn Henderson’s worlds collided in the summer of 2012 under a scorching Los Angeles sun. The musical sparks began flying, but it wasn’t until 2015 where late night writing sessions would quietly begin laying the groundwork for their musical future. In many ways they were opposites, Courtney content writing music for herself, Quinn having a burning desire to perform and share their music on stage. With a growing confidence in their abilities, the two traveled further east to Charlotte, NC in 2016, with a promise to delve deeper not only into their musical pursuits, but planning the rest of their lives together.

It’s Snakes, T-Rextasy
Jan 12 @ 10:00 pm
Its Snakes: It’s Snakes! is the groovy new band featuring members of Fetchin Bones, Snagglepuss, Aqualads and Chalkies.
T-Rextasy:
T-Rextasy played their first show at a punk pizza party. Since then, they’ve been “garnering a cult following” (The Deli) of believers hoping to hop in the dino dames’ minivan.
In 2014, the “hyper-verbal rock & roll goddesses” (Rolling Stone) released demos they recorded themselves on an iPhone that began generating buzz in their hometown of New York City. 2016’s Jurassic Punk, the band’s debut record out on Father/Daughter Records, received critical praise from outlets such as NPR and its single, “Gap Yr Boiz,” appeared on a Rolling Stone “Best Songs of 2016” list. In support of the LP, T-Rextasy refined their “charming…impressive live show” (Stereogum) on several international tours that included stops at Northside Festival and South by Southwest. T-Rextasy has sought to mobilize their platform throughout their journey. The group calls attention to injustices from within interviews to the stage, donates earnings to causes such as LGBTQ+ rights and prison abolition, and cultivates a community of like-minded artistic activists.
Prehysteria, the quartet’s crowd-funded, self-released sophomore record, will be released 1/3/2019. Their songwriting has developed without relinquishing its signature spontaneity. Lyrically dealing with relationship communication issues, consent, queerness, growing up, and the internet and subsequent isolation, Prehysteria endeavors to inspire critical thinking while still getting people to giggle.

We along with our partners at Kompleks Creative ( Durham, NC ) are here to bring you a series of incredible DJs and dope parties to the Carolinas. Why ? Because you are not an All Star this weekend you are a SUPERSTAR everyday !!
See you there!

DJ Maseo: Producer / DJ / part-time MC Vincent Mason a.k.a Maseo a.k.a Plug 3 from iconic hiphop group De La Soul quietly maintains a key spot in hiphop history. De La Soul burst onto the scene and innovated hiphop by colouring outside the lines, sampling a diverse array of untouched, previously unsampled artists such as The Turtles, Hall & Oates, and Steely Dan on their critically acclaimed debut ‘3 Feet High & Rising.’ They have been a catalyst for other important acts in hiphop history as they helped introduce to world to Mos Def, helped propel a Tribe Called Quest with ‘Buddy’, and were among the first major acts to work with deceased hiphop icon J-Dilla on a major single (when he was known as Jay Dee). De La is perhaps the ‘oldest’ functioning hiphop group to still truly maintain credibility while not having ‘fell off’ as they continue to stay relevant collaborating with Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, MF Doom, Ghostface Killah, Roc Marciano and Madlib among others. Their ‘downtime’ music release within the gap of their their most recent albums (2003 and 2016) was also innovative; put out by Nike, who also released a De La Soul limited edition Dunk sneaker which sold out at retail immediately and can now be found on Ebay for upwards of $500. Their biggest song to date came from left field somewhat: Damon Albarn from Blur was such a fan that he enlisted De La to participate on his 2nd Gorillaz album which gave birth to ‘Feel Good Inc’ – the biggest single ever for both De La and Gorillaz. The track was featured on a massive Ipod worldwide TV campaign and won both acts a Grammy the same night as their ensemble Grammy performance which also included Madonna. De La toured with Gorillaz worldwide where Damon would have entire stadiums chant Maseo’s name to prompt his now infamous demented laugh to start off the performance of ‘Feel Good Inc’ and Maseo was often found DJ’ing at the afterparties. De La’s long-anticipated new Crowd-funded album broke a Kickstarter record and debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Rap Chart; as well, it was nominated for a Grammy Award. It features appearances by Snoop Dogg, David Byrne, Damon Albarn, Little Dragon, 2Chainz & more.
Like their album debut, Maseo’s DJ’ing – while rooted in Hiphop – is a diverse journey through all of his musical loves – Disco, Funk, Soul, 80’s, Old School and more.

Kil Ripkin:Kil Ripkin (Akil S. El) is an Moorish American rapper/producer born New York, raised in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn. Groomed under the tutelage of singer songwriter, producer and engineer Don Newkirk his music turned the head of DJ Premier, which laid the foundation for a long standing relationship for his crew The Coalescence.

Kil’s latest full-length album Medulla Oblongata Rap (M.O.R.) 8 on Torae’s (Barrel Brothers, Revolt TV, SiriusXM) Internal Affairs Records (in association with Soulspazm), is a conceptual work of art detailing the fall of man and a the re-birth process.

Volk, The Veldt, Biggins
Feb 22 @ 10:00 pm

VOLK is the dynamic duo that roars with a mix of high-octane Rock n Roll, classic Country swagger, and heart-shattering Soul. After cutting their teeth in the dim-lit bars of Europe, VOLK decided to take their music home to the US in Spring 2016.

The Veldt:
Formed by identical twin brothers singer/guitarist Daniel and guitarist Danny Chavis, and rounded out by drummer Marvin Levi on drums and bassist joesph (hue) boyle, later David Burris, The Veldt quickly became the ‘must see attraction’ of the quirky art-rock scene in Chapel Hill, NC (which also held bands like Superchunk, Polvo and Dillon Fence in its ranks). The Veldt released their first proper record, Marigold’s, on Stardog/Mercury, in 1992. Marigold’s was received well enough to earn the band a much more lucrative contract with Polygram Records. The result was the cult classic Afrodisiac recorded and produced in London, England with Ray Shulman (The Sugarcubes,The Sundays, etc.) at the helm. Afrodisiac’s under current rumblings eventually rose to cause a storm as the band soon found themselves sharing stages with likes of Oasis, The Cocteau Twins, The Pixies, Fishbone, Corrosion Of Conformity and a host of other seminal alternative bands. After two more records, Universe Boat on Yesha Recordings and Love At First Hate on their own imprint, End Of The World Technologies, Danny left the band preceded by Burris who left the music business for a career in film in 1994 (he is currently the producer for CBS’s hit show Survivor). The Veldt continued on in various incarnations until it was put to bed in 1998. After relocating to New York City, Danny and Daniel focused on their new band Apollo Heights. This time around, The Chavis brothers pushed their musical boundaries with more electronica and trip hop influenced back drops to create texture with Daniel’s soulful falsetto croon. Their last recording, White Music For Black People, featured the twins and special guests Mos Def and Lady Miss Kier from Delite fame. TV On The Radio’s David Sitek handled some of the production with Danny and Daniel doing the rest.

Biggins:
Gritty, honest Rock N Roll/Country from the mountains of NC

Feb 23 @ 10:00 pm

‘One foot in the grave, the other dancing wildly about’– serves as a sort of GASP manifesto. A dark litany of worldly cares and psychic damage recounted across an existentialist cocktail of post-punk funk, the dark underbelly of Americana, a veritable bouquet of avant-garde influences, and an eight-limbed percussion section form the core of their baroque new-wave sound.

The result is resonating, spacious pop that is both immediately captivating even while it rewards multiple close listens.
Reese McHenry:
Reese McHenry (Dirty Little Heaters, Second Wife) sings and plays guitar. Stephen Gardner (T’s, Trousers) sings and plays drums. Together they make powerful, catchy, power chord-heavy music that you’ll probably enjoy, or at least take notice of.

Matthew Paul Butler:
Folk/Soul/Gospel from Durham, NC

Mateja:
Starting in late 2013, Micah Kolk picked up and moved to Nashville, TN in the pursuit of making music his career. With the help of Brett Moore (The Apache Relay), he recorded his first EP under the name “Mateja”. This debut self-titled album clearly reflects Kolk’s passion, energy and musical ability. From the opening track, the listener is captivated; quickly discovering he or she will not grow tired of the dark, yet beautiful sound with his effortless voice placed in front of melodic instrumentation. This unique and accessible sound stands on its own.

Hectorina, Wild Trees, Minthill
Feb 27 @ 10:00 pm – Feb 28 @ 12:00 am

Hectorina: WE ARE HECTORINA. HECTORINA IS OUR NAME
Wild Trees:
Once upon a spring time in two thousand and ten, there was a boy named Israel who wrote music he didn’t always like and he became good friends with another named Nick who just wanted someone to create something with.

Minthill: Minthill is a place. It’s a place where deconstructed tape loops, rescued from dusty cabinets in forgotten old warehouses mingle with part abstract pop and obstruct melody. It’s a place that Angela Saylor knows very well, and for the better part of the last decade she has constructed her own mint hill. Part space odyssey, part femme worship, part spatial relations with the years passed. Minthill is a place where all wild things go to live, and olfactory gets the ever seldom nod of preservation, desolation shines, and chrome is brick.

Highway Hypnosis, her forthcoming album on Merge Records that will drop in January, plays on hip-hop, post-punk, and invented words to fill a gap between the feminist underground and genre-specific singles charts. Through it, Moolchan joins the resistance forged by queer black feminists who create, explore, empower, conquer, and play bass.

Scott Yoder
Drawing on his childhood fascination with the otherworldly & theatrical Scott Yoder elevates his sensitive song craft into fantastical heights with his second LP “A Fool Aloof.” An introvert at heart, Scott challenges his own singer/songwriter nature with a dynamic & engaging live show that has left audiences awestruck on his many tours promoting the single & album track “Ways Of Love.” Now with the full set of songs outlining his morphing identity out on Annibale & Burger Records Scott returns to the stage backed by a band of misfits romantics to seduce you with his mystic charm.
