Gareth Asher

Gareth Asher returns to Charlotte, NC promoting his new album, “Defend the Flame.”

With lyricism reflecting and celebrating the inner struggles we face through life’s smiles and tears, “Defend the Flame” reminds us to accept and release the emotions that can often feel insurmountable within us. This message is one that has no doubt been felt through much of his previous music, but through this album, Gareth lays himself bare in a way that he has not shared before. The honesty in the tone of these new and precious songs is one that will leave you feeling more connected to the self and perhaps a little lighter with the knowledge that you are not alone.

Join us May 24th in welcoming Gareth Asher back to The Evening Muse.

Jason Adamo

Jason Adamo

An interesting thing happens when a talented musician ditches gimmicks and masks; honest, unpretentious, full-bodied music is born. Jason Adamo is a truly soulful singer with inspired lyrics and raspy falsetto. Currently residing in Raleigh, NC, Adamo has lived in New York City and Nashville immersing himself in each cities music and songwriting scene.

Jason Recently received RIAA Gold and Platinum plaques as a songwriter for the song ‘Beautiful Believer’ on Brett Young’s debut album on The Big Machine Label Group.

Adamo’s Joe Cocker-like “bold grit and heart,” and ability to take a captive audience from “engaged silence” to a “floor stomping, rollicking, good time.”

Stephen Day

Stephen Day

In the veins of Ben Rector and John Mayer, Buford, Georgia native Stephen Day is carving a path all his own in the landscape of today’s pop music. Day’s Crooning vocals paired with his compelling stage presence has garnered the praise of fans and critics alike, with Noisetrade adding “Stephen Day is an artist that comes along once every decade.”

The soulful singer-songwriter began his musical journey upon moving to Nashville, TN in 2014 to pursue music while attending Belmont University. It was during that time he released his debut EP, Undergrad Romance and the Moses in Me, which has garnered over 11 million streams since its release. The six-track collection is also home to the standout “If You Were the Rain,” which alone has racked up over 2.2 million streams and counting on Spotify. The song also earned a spot on Spotify’s Global Viral Chart, peaking at number two. Day’s latest album is set to unveil this fall.

Alexa Rose

Alexa Rose

Alexa Rose has the rare ability to find strikingly original melodies that nevertheless sound like they must have existed for a long time, stored away maybe in the ether of creativity, self-evident and awaiting discovery. Moving deftly between complex dexterity and heart-tugging familiarity, Rose achieves a sound that pushes gently alongside the bright vocal experimentalism of Joni Mitchell and Joanna Newsom while maintaining the brassy attitude and simple refrains that run straight through American roots music from mountain ballads to rock n roll.

Amidst the sea of earnestly soft-sung songs on the Americana circuit, Rose’s voice stands out with depth and complexity, capable of gymnastic yodels and deep resonance. Rose’s sound evokes the likes of Hurray for the Riff Raff and Margot Price, but she cultivates her own hard-working perspective without imitation or posturing. What separates her from the crowd is a tangible, relatable sense of hunger and realism about the sacrifices of the road, the elusiveness of fulfillment, and the bittersweetness of dreams.

AKITA presents CULTURE SHIFT 4 w/ The Hawthornes, Doctor Ocular
Jun 1 @ 10:00 pm – Jun 2 @ 2:00 am
AKITA brings you the 4th installment of their Party Culture Shift! The brainchild of drummer Patrick Buckley, the party’s intent is to continually grow the Funk, HipHop, Jam, Reggae, Jazz, R&B and soul scene in the entire southeast.

Akita:
We create music we like in the hopes that you will like it as well and get some spiritual, emotional, intellectual or otherwise positive influence from your listening experience. Catch ya at the next show!
The Hawthornes:
Cementing their place in a burgeoning Charlotte music scene, The Hawthornes are a step forward to music-retro. Fusing imaginative, melodic hooks with sultry vocals, fiery guitars, and luscious grooves, The Hawthornes color the musical winds with unmistaken character. This widely-influenced group of musicians has taken time to craft an album that stretches to the edge of their varied styles, noting that most fans of music can find familiarity in elements of their sound. The band operates in somewhat of an Omni-genre, combining the backgrounds of each individual member’s primary discipline, and marrying them in a sonic-sphere that is equal parts accessible and challenging. From the rhythm patterns and grooves laid by Horace Carney (drummer) and Chris Freeman (bass/vocals) to the intricate chord play of Mike Prescott (guitar/vocals) and alluring melodies of Ade Herbert (vocals/keys), The Hawthornes deliver musical experiences that delight the casual music fan and the audiophile.

Doctor Ocular:
Blending synth and guitar with drum and bass, Doctor Ocular sets original melodies and arrangements of covers with vibes from jamtronica, acid jazz, synth-pop,and roots-rock. Since their inception, DocOc has trekked throughout the Southeast and Midwest, spreading the word of their very own brand of psychedelic rock.

Liz Longley Michael McArthur

Liz Longley

Liz Longley

While best known for her stop-you-in-your-tracks voice, Liz has steadily developed a reputation as an accomplished songwriter, crafting intimately personal portraits through her music. Liz’s songs have won some of the most prestigious songwriting competitions in the country, including the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Competition. With five albums to her name, Liz’s music has been featured on TV shows such as ABC’s “Beauty & The Beast”, Lifetime’s “Army Wives”, and MTV’s “Scream”. The latest release, ‘Weightless’, is the highly anticipated follow- up to Longley’s eponymous 2015 Sugar Hill Records debut, which earned accolades from critics, who proclaimed the album “a thing of beauty,” (Popdose), and praised her “captivating stories set to tunes that will be running through your head after a single spin.” (American Songwriter). Liz is currently recording her sixth album with 5-time GRAMMY nominated producer, Paul Moak.

Michael McArthur

Michael McArthur

Songwriting has always been a form of therapy for McArthur. Over the past decade, the Florida native has filled a handful of EPs with his own mix of raw soul and lushy layered folk, working with producers like David Bianco (Tom Petty, Lucinda Williams) and Greg Wells (Adele, One Republic) along the way. He makes his full-length debut with 2019’s Ever Green, Ever Rain, an album
that’s by turns warm, woozy, and wistful. The album shows the full range not only of McArthur’s voice – a gorgeous instrument that soars and swoons, flecked with vibrato and palpable emotion – but his songwriting, too, bouncing from the soft acoustics of “Elaine” to the percussive pulse of “Save Me From the Fire.” Recorded with Grammy-winning producer, Ryan Freeland and inspired by McArthur’s long period of isolation and self-repair, Ever Green, Ever Rain is both earthy and anthemic – the sound of a songwriter who’s unafraid to shine a light on his own faults.

The Arcadian Wild
Jun 14 @ 7:30 pm
The Arcadian Wild

The Arcadian Wild

The Arcadian Wild is guitarist Isaac Horn, mandolinist Lincoln Mick, and fiddler Paige Park. Inhabiting a space at the intersection of folk, bluegrass, formal, and pop music, the band presents a unique acoustic sound that is simultaneously unified and diverse. Their ability to exist gracefully in that ambiguity is perhaps part of the appeal, and there seems to be something for everyone in The Arcadian Wild’s music. Ear-catching three-part harmony draws in listeners immediately, and those who continue to engage joyfully discover great depths to be explored and enjoyed. With memorable melodies, stirring harmonic tension, engaging rhythmic trinkets, and thought provoking lyrics, the band displays a deep love of layers, and invites audiences into a world rich in meaning and substance.

“Invitation” is perhaps a defining word for The Arcadian Wild. “Hospitality” is another. Perhaps this is in part due to the fact that house concerts were such a vital part of their beginning, and remain a constant in their current tour schedules. Having much experience with stepping into a stranger’s home, only to quickly feel seen, cared for, and like family, the band searches to create something similar through song. Music that invites, shelters, feeds, and nurtures. Whether they’re performing in a living room, or on the mainstage of a folk festival, The Arcadian Wild’s goal is to make everyone who hears them feel at home.

In 2015, after a successful crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter, the band released their self-titled debut record, and in 2018 released a four-song EP called Wander. Wonder. Now on the heels of their second successfully funded Kickstarter campaign, the band is preparing to release their second full-length record in May 2019.

The Kingston Trio
Oct 5 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

All three current members, Mike Marvin, Tim Gorelangton and Don Marovich, have intrinsic links to and experience with the original group: Mike is the adopted son of founding member Nick Reynolds, who was also his musical mentor; Tim, a close friend since boyhood, is one of the few musicians outside the Trio who has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Don Marovich, who has performed with the Trio and who plays the guitar, banjo and mandolin. Many of their personal memories recall the iconic trio’s performances and journey as folk music made its extraordinary ascent to the pinnacle of popular culture – and the top of the music charts.
