Car Seat Headrest are about to release their highly anticipated follow-up to 2016’s monumental, breakout album Teens of Denial. But, it’s not exactly all new material. The new LP will actually be a re-working of the 2011 album Twin Fantasy, which was self-released by singer/guitarist Will Toledo before Car Seat Headrest was a full band.
Teens of Denial was the first full band album of new material from Car Seat Headrest. Year before that happened though, Toledo had been putting out lo-fi albums under the Car Seat Headrest name on his Bandcamp page. It was actually those little albums that led to him being able to form a new band and sign to Matador Records.
One of the most popular self-released Car Seat Headrest albums is Twin Fantasy. It garnered a cult internet following well before the name Car Seat Headrest meant anything to the world at large. So, it’s actually a rather fitting that Toledo has decided to re-record that very album with his full band. Reportedly, this re-worked version is the way that Toledo has always wanted the record to sound. He just never had the means to make that a possibility until now.
This newly re-recorded version of Twin Fantasy is due out February 16 via Matador Records. The vinyl edition of the album will contain the newly re-worked version of the album, while the CD edition will contain both the original version and the new one. There will also be a separate Record Store Day release on vinyl of the original, lo-fi album.
Car Seat Headrest have also shared the new version of the song “Nervous Young Inhumans.” Check out the video below.
