Cat Power drops video for striking new single “Woman” (feat. Lana Del Rey)

Last month Cat Power announced her big return with her upcoming tenth studio album Wanderer. The new LP marks Chan Marshall’s easy glide back into our ears (and hearts) after a six year hiatus. The announcement came with opening intro track “Wanderer.” The song wasn’t so much a lead single as it is barely over a minute and length and features only Marshall’s voice. It’s a beautiful intro to what we’re sure is going to be another great Cat Power record. But it left us all wanting more. Now we’re getting just that with the album’s true lead-off single “Woman.”

“Woman” is much more of your standard album cut, as in it’s a fully fleshed out song. It works to give you a sense of what style we can expect from Wanderer, which is likely some Americana-influenced folk rock music. And with Chan Marshall’s vocals leading everything, it’s hard not to get totally swept up in the sound crafted  here. The new track also features vocal work from Lana Del Rey. But for those expecting a clean lead-vocal from the singer, you might be disappointed. Instead, what we get is Lana Del Rey lending her impeccable voice to the background vocals, which really works to create a encapsulating sound. The song comes to us in an official video featuring the band playing in a gorgeously shot parking lot and a color-shifting indoor space. Give it a watch below.

Wanderer is out October 5. Pre-order it now.
