DJ SPK is an Atlanta/Charlotte-based DJ, producer and creator/content curator for StereoTypez. She has solidifyied a host of gigs nationally including the Big Beat Fest, Microsoft Store DJ, and being RAW Artists’ resident DJ for Charlotte. As the Promotions Assistant and DJ for Radio One’s 92.7 The Block and Old School 105.3, DJ SPK is quickly establishing herself as a taste maker in Charlotte’s music scene. SPK is also the host of StereTypez Radio for W646 QCB digital radio.
How long have you been a resident of the Charlotte area? If not originally from here where did you come from?
I have been a resident of Charlotte for almost 2 years. I was born in Buffalo, NY but raised in Atlanta.
What are some of your favorite hidden gems around the Charlotte area?
Su Casa, FunkShun, the Wine Up, Amelie’s, Abari, and Crowders Mountain.
What got you into Music? and what keeps you wanting to do it?
I have always loved discovering music. I keep doing it because nothing else makes me so consistently happy.
What are some of your other hobbies besides music?
I’m a foodie. I love to explore and try food spots. I also love art galleries and museums. And doing nothing at the park.
What is your go to karaoke song?
I don’t do karaoke. But if I did i’m certain it would be Spice Girls.
Who are some of your influences? Music or otherwise?
Nas, Aaliyah, TLC, Frida Kahlo, Dali, Malcolm X, Assata Shakur, the Buddha…that’s all I can think of right now.
Which Spice Girl is your favorite?
I think it is HILARIOUS that this is a question. I didn’t see this at all before I answered the Karaoke question. Growing up it was Sporty, BUT as an adult its definitely Posh. She was very underrated.
What is one of your favorite songs you have written and why?
Not a writer…yet. *enter maniacal laugh*
What was the first concert you attended?
A concert with Charlie Baltimore, H-Town, Big Pun, and LL Cool J. I dont remember the name. I was 11.
