Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus all have one major thing in common in that they’ve all released some of the best albums of the past two years or so. Bridgers and Baker both released some incredible albums just last year, while the sophomore LP from Dacus, Historian, dropped earlier this year. These artists seriously are making some of the best, most personal music right now. So it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that they’ve all decided to team up and form a new band. It’s called boygenius, and they’ve just announced their debut EP is incoming.
boygenius was formed after the three musicians toured together. They wound up recording their self-titled debut EP in just four days at Sound City Studios. It’s due out November 9 via Matador Records. Each song from the EP were written by individual members, but wound up getting the full trio treatment once they recorded them. As such, each track will feature Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus trading off lead vocal duty while the others sing backup. To give you a sense of what this means, the band have shared 3 tracks from the EP. “Bite The Hand,” “Me & My Dog,” and “Stay Down” each highlight not only how great all three are, but also showcase the type of magic they make when they come together. Stream each one here, here, and here.
Just below here you’ll also find the album art and full tracklist for boygenius. And to commemorate this new collaboration, all three artists are heading out on tour this Fall. You can check out all the dates below here as well.
