At the very beginning of June Natalie Prass dropped one of the low-key best albums you’re likely to hear all year. The Future And The Past is her second studio album, and easily the best work she’s put out thus far. The chamber pop leanings of her self-titled 2015 debut were twisted into something totally fresh and new for the singer/songwriter. The new LP is a smoother ride, filled with R&B croons, and highly danceable flourishes. There’s also a big political undercurrent running through it. But you might not even notice it considering how great the grooves are. Simply put, it’s an album of this moment, and it’s high-time you dive into it. And what’s a better way to get introduced to it than with a great single from the project?
“The Fire” is an early album track, but remains one of the biggest highlights on an album devoid of weak moments. It’s a track that easily summarizes what you’ll be hearing all over The Future And The Past. It’s got a smooth, mellow tone to it, but the bright spots shine hard when Prass sings the unforgettable hook. To get acquainted with it (and to get the uninitiated’s ears onto the album), there’s now a new video for the song. It’s got giant Mount Rushmore-like heads, and Natalie Prass dancing in several distinctive outfits. Do yourself a favor by giving it a watch below.
