Panda Bear has been gearing up to release his new solo album Buoys since November. Although the hardworking psychedelic musician, who spends a good bit of time in his band Animal Collective, released a new EP just a year ago, he’s not sitting still anytime soon. He may have sat out last year’s AnCo album Tangerine Reef, but now he’s ready to drop some more strange and chilled out soundscapes with Buoys. We already got a good taste of what we could expect from the LP with lead single “Dolphin.” And today he’s giving us another glimpse with the album’s second single “Token.”
“Token” does once again play with his surreal use of guitar, much like how “Dolphin” did. But this time, things are even more slowed down and relaxing. Considering the busy sound of his last solo full-length, this is very much a welcome change of pace. It’s also just really nice to have music from the Animal Collective bros coming out nearly every single year.
There’s also an official video for “Token,” which was directed by and stars experimental UK musician Dean Blunt. The video lays the concept all out very directly with some on-screen text at the beginning. And what follows is one of the most low key, yet creative videos you’ll see this week. It’s hook of an idea very well could confuse some, but might we suggest it could (maybe) be a sorta parody of this Young Thug video. We think so.

Buoys is our February 8. Pre-order it here.
