Rapper “Rob: Earth One” wanted to emulate Kanye in grade school

How long have you been a resident of the Charlotte area? If not originally from here where did you come from?

I went to Queens University of Charlotte, where I would meet the other co-founder of The Social Contract, Malcolm Chester (Dropped outta school, now we dumb lit). We’re both originally from Fayetteville (I was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to NC at age six.) We’re pretty much based in Charlotte and Fayetteville.

imageWhat are some of your favorite hidden gems around the Charlotte area?

One “hidden gem” that comes to mind is bar/venue Snug Harbor. I’ve done a couple shows there and the atmosphere is great. It’s in the cut, but not too deep. Def check it out.

What got you into Music? and what keeps you wanting to do it?

The #1 thing that got me into music was Kanye West. I used to emulate him in grade school. Once I started writing and recording my own stuff, it was history. The thing that keeps me wanting to make music is the fact that people tell me that my songs help them get through life…like I would’ve never imagined that kids would look up to me because of my music. Now I’m getting used to it, but it’s always a cool thing.

What are some of your other hobbies besides music?

Pro wrestling. Oh nah, I don’t wrestle…I gave that up a long time ago hahaha. I’ve been a fan since I was 5 and now I’m 23….that’s a long time! I love the in workings of the business, how they put matches together, the politics…everything about it. I don’t think most people actually understand the true art that is professional wrestling. Also, comic books. I love comic book stuff. I’m a nerd.

What is your go to karaoke song?

Thinkin Bout You’ by Frank Ocean

Who are some of your influences? Music or otherwise?

Like I said, Kanye West of course. Kid Cudi’s another one, and so is John Mayer.those are like my top three influences. There are plenty of others, but those are always first. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Elliot Smith lately. I identify with his music so much. He’s up there, too.

Which Spice Girl is your favorite?

Scary Spice! Yo, this question just reminded me of their movie. Gotta watch that soon…

What is one of your favorite songs you have written and why?

One of my favorite songs I’ve written is this song called ‘Vision’. It pretty much sums up my journey up until this point and all the things an upcoming artist deal with on his way up. I love this song because it gives hope that everything will work out, as long as you keep your vision (pun intended).

What was the first concert you attended?

The first concert I attended was Warped Tour 2011. Yeah, I was one of those kids. I very much still am. I just rap. Very well. Lol.

Describe yourself in three words.
