Since October, Sharon Van Etten has been steadily moving towards the release of her new album Remind Me Tomorrow. And today we’re now just a day away from hearing it in full. Over the course of the past few months, Van Etten has shared a handful of tracks from the project. There was the bold lead single “Comeback Kid,” the moody “Jupiter 4,” and just last week the fierce and powerful “Seventeen.” That last drop could have easily concluded the album release cycle, but she’s now managed to sneak out one last track before the drop date with the new song “You Shadow.”
“You Shadow” is fairly different than the previous tracks we’ve heard from Remind Me Tomorrow. Thus far, most of what we’ve gotten is some larger-scale sounds built around synths and Van Etten’s incredible voice. But “You Shadow” tones things down a bit, presenting an overall looser sound. There’s a spaciousness here, yet still it hits you with a nice hook and a compelling vocal performance. It’s no surprise to see this one comes late in the album as it sounds like one of those buried songs that might go unnoticed on a few listens. But as a single release, it allows us all to breathe a bit before digesting the full project, which is a nice way to wind down this anticipation.
You can stream “You Shadow” right here.
Also, Sharon Van Etten performed two tracks on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night. She put on a powerhouse performance of “Seventeen” as well as debuted the new single “You Shadow.” Check out both videos down below.
