The magical St. Vincent (Annie Clark) wound up being one of the best parts of last night’s Grammys. And if you’re already well familiar with her, that won’t be much of a surprise. For years Clark has honed in her style and artistry, crafting personas and stage shows that are some of the most spectacular you’ll see. Despite her steady climb to where she’s at now, she still remains more of an underground artist than a mainstream one. With last night’s award ceremony though, that might actually change.
St. Vincent was not nominated in any of the major major categories. But regardless, she wound up taking home two awards. One was for best album packaging (well deserved, honestly) for her 2017 album MASSEDUCTION. The other was more notable, albeit still not quite a big deal to the world at large. It was for Best Rock Song for “Masseduction” from that very same LP (again, well deserved). But that’s not all! For the biggest part of the night, the moment where the uninitiated likely took major notice was for her live performance with Dua Lipa. The pair fit their songs “Masseduction” and “One Kiss” together in a showstopping performance of beautifully crafted style. Essentially, the two matched looks and wowed the crowd with their magnetic chemistry. Unfortunately, the Grammys notoriously don’t put any parts of their broadcast up to view for free, so there’s no video to share here. However, there is a new video you can still sink your eyes and ears into…
In a sort of celebratory gesture of St. Vincent’s Grammy run, she opted drop a brand new video for the now award winning song “Masseduction.” The video essentially dives right into the apocalyptic imagery of the song with actual apocalyptic imagery. There’s nuclear test footage, surreal dancers, and an even more surreal headpiece that Annie Clark is wearing. All told, it’s a completely bizarre but oddly fitting way to celebrate an artist at the peak of her powers. Check it out down below.
UPDATE: St. Vincent has now shared her full Grammy performance with Dua Lipa. Give it a watch below.
