A couple of months ago, three brilliant singers/musicians announced their team-up and it all felt so right. Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus announced they’d be releasing an EP for their new band boygenius. The self-titled project was set to be released on November 9 via Matador Records. But today, the trio surprise-dropped the entire thing on all streaming platforms.
Back when the boygenius announcement came, the band also shared three of the EP’s six tracks. Each one featured one of the individual artist singing lead while the others backed her up. Naturally, all the tracks sounded masterfully done. Because the thing about Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus is just how confident they are in their excellent songwriting. Each artist is able to write impeccable runes, steeped in poetic lines, emotional deliveries, and ultimate catharsis. And as one would expect, when you put the three of them together to record, things just get even better.
This weekend, make it a point to dive into boygenius. It’s a quick trip, but one you’ll quickly want to return to. Stream it right here.
Physical editions of boygenius are still due out November 9. Pre-order it now.
