Katie Crutchfield has been releasing music under the name Waxahatchee since 2012, but it was last year’s Out In The Storm that seemed to propel her even further forward. That album sounds like the culmination of everything that came before it, and it also happens to be one of the best alt rock albums of last year. Something Crutchfield also got to to do last year was play a live set at Third Man Records. Now, two songs from that set have made their way to your ears.
Third Man Records have been releasing handfuls of live recordings from their location in Nashville for years now. They’ve covered a wide range of talented artists, and now they’ve added yet another one. Waxahatchee’s set has been bared down to a 7″ single featuring two incredible performances. On the A-Side she plays a cover of Lucinda Williams’ “Greenville,” while on the B-Side she plays her own song “La Loose.”
Of the recording, Crutchfield says:
“Playing Third Man was a highlight of my tour last Spring. Waxahatchee has been covering Lucinda Williams’s ‘Greenville’ for a few years, but we never got around to recording it. To have my cover of such a great song be on this single is very exciting for me.”
