Vampire Weekend drop Jonah Hill-directed video for “Sunflower”

Just last week, Vampire Weekend shared two new singles from their upcoming album Father Of The Bride. They also provided more details on the album itself, specifically regarding the release date (which is May 3). The tracks “Sunflower” and “Big Blue” were quick bites of relaxed sounding tunes, with “Sunflower” being the clear frontrunner for second official single (after “Harmony Hall”). And it turns out that precisely right as the band have now shared the official video for “Sunflower.”

If you’ve been following this whole Vampire Weekend album rollout cycle you’re likely already aware that a “Sunflower” video was on the way. Early last month, the band were spotted filming a video with Jonah Hill at gourmet NY market Zabar’s. Speculation was that this was set to be the video for the new single “Sunflower” (which at the time wasn’t even out or officially announced yet). And it turns out all of that was true. Jonah Hill directs the video, which shows Ezra Koenig walking around New York’s Upper West Side. There are also cameo appearances from Steve Lacy (who plays on the track itself), Fab 5 Freddy, and Jerry Seinfeld. Yet what makes the video one worth watching is the dizzying effect Hill creates by showcasing a constantly shifting split screen. It’s a video that is simple, yet effective, giving the song a new sense of style.
