Joe Benjamin and Leffty

Joe Benjamin

Joe Benjamin

Active as bandleader in New York City since the mid 2010s, Joe Benjamin has built many different worlds for his music to live in. Until only a few years ago, he led a massive, genre-bending 11-piece orchestra, whose sheer mass was its own spectacle. As Joe’s style has evolved, his arrangements have become more streamlined, and his new music replaces the cacophony of reeds and brass with a tight three-piece horn section and back-up singers, just as it replaces the bombastic and madcap swing rhythms of his former project with irresistibly danceable grooves and earworm hooks.
While his newest work is heavily influenced by funk and soul bands such as Jamiroquai and Earth, Wind & Fire, Joe Benjamin has a sound all his own, and it is his intoxicating and idiosyncratic style that has brought him on sold-out tours throughout Europe and the United States (the most pertinent of which is his forthcoming summer 2019 tour) and given him a dedicated fanbase at home in New York City. Together with his rhythm section (Ray Cetta, Tom Wilson and Michael Gordon), Joe has written a new album that showcases his previously under-displayed talent for creating searing, insistent grooves, catchy hooks and expansive soundscapes with no frills or pretensions- just the raw, captivating power that Benjamin has always been known for.

Leffty

Leffty

Leffty is a POP/R&B duo based out of Charlotte, NC. Kristian Lietzan on vocals & guitar and Josh Scott on drums. They currently have one single out on all platforms but are fine-tuning new singles as you read, coming from their love of dance, hip-hop, and Prince, accompanied by their experience in love, heartbreak, and the nights they can’t forget. They believe that when somebody dances like no one is watching, they enter into a world where they are everything they were always supposed to be 100% free.

The name Leffty is the story of Kristian. He was born with an abnormality in his left ear, which disfigures the structural bones in the human ear, and closes the ear canal, preventing all hearing through that ear. His parents overcompensated for every fear that he might feel “different’ or “unwanted.” When he was 19, he found out about a surgery that could repair his hearing as well as the appearance. He got his hearing fixed, but when asked about restructuring, he declined because he had truly embraced the anomaly that was him.

Leffty is the name because they want their flaws to be their names. Something recognizable that can inspire their listener to be free from everything weighing them down. With their music, they hope to give everyone a chance to truly embrace their “Leffty,” and maybe dance with somebody new.

They have a slew of new singles releasing later this year and are so hyped to share it with you. Follow them on IG: @Leffty_Official to stay up to date with the duo!

JIM LAUDERDALE
Aug 23 @ 9:00 pm

Jim Lauderdale is a 2-time Grammy winning Americana icon, a singer-songwriter whose unmistakable rhinestone-incrusted silhouette has been a symbol for creative integrity and prolificacy for thirty-one albums over decades of recording. He’s an A-list Nashville songwriter whose songs have ruled the country charts while recording an eclectic catalogue of albums that run the gamut of American roots styles. His prolific streak of releases continues in 2019 with his new album ‘From Another World’.

The twelve songs contained within, all written or co-written by Jim, are his antidote to the anger, divisiveness of today’s world, a world full of bad news and folks yelling at each other on CNN. This is music from another world, a world of empathy, love, forgiveness and humility. Where people find freedom through togetherness, where they struggle to change for the better, where country music still cries with the sound of pedal steel guitar and psychedelic-tinged lyrics flow through aching indelible melodies.

The Temptations & The Four Tops
Oct 27 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Returning by popular demand, Motown legends The Temptations & The Four Tops are coming back to Charlotte for a legendary night of all their favorite hits!

For more than fifty years, The Temptations have prospered, propelling popular music with a series of smash hits, and sold-out performances throughout the world.

“The crowds are bigger, the sales are sizzling,” says one industry report. “The outpouring of affection for this super-group has never been greater”.

The history of The Temptations is the history of contemporary American pop. An essential component of the original Motown machine, that amazing engine invented by Berry Gordy, The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties. It wasn’t until 1964 however, that the Smokey Robinson written-and-produced “The Way You Do the Things You Do” turned the guys into stars.

One of Motown’s most consistent hit-makers, The Four Tops are among the most stable and consistent vocal groups.

Their first Motown hit, “Baby I Need Your Loving” in 1964, made them stars and their sixties track record on the label is indispensable to any retrospective of the decade. Their songs, soulful and bittersweet, were across-the-board successes. “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” a no. 1 R&B and Pop smash in 1965, is one of Motown’s longest-running chart toppers.

In 1990, with 24 Top 40 pop hits to their credit, The Four Tops were inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Though they would no longer have hits on record, the group continued to be a hit in concert, touring incessantly, a towering testament to the enduring legacy of the Motown Sound they helped shape and define.
