BROTHER OLIVER
Sep 19 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Brother Oliver is a South Carolina-based musical project formed by two brothers, Andrew & Stephen Oliver. The brothers deliver high-energy performances through the lens of a folk-rock / psych-rock aesthetic—a genre they’ve officially coined as “psychedelic folk-rock.” Their explorative approach to music strikes a chord with any audience and has gained recognition in the Southeast and abroad—landing them on bills alongside Father John Misty, Old Sea Brigade, Matthew Logan Vasquez, SUSTO, and more.

The project was started in 2011 in the small town of Greenville, Michigan — where the brothers were born and raised. Just two years later, they moved to Greenville, South Carolina as a result of 20-year-old angst and longings for change. Upon arrival, Andrew (the eldest of the two) opened a small recording studio where they would write and record their first album, Stubborn Fool, in 2013. Brother Oliver has since released their self-titled full-length album, Brother Oliver, which has been regarded as highly innovative in the world of folk rock music—gaining the attention of Huffington Post, PBS, PopMatters, AXS, and more.

HONEY ISLAND SWAMP BAND
Sep 20 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Great music begins with great songs, and great songs are what the Honey Island Swamp Band is all about. The band came together when Aaron Wilkinson (acoustic guitar, mandolin, vocals) and Chris Mulé (electric guitar, vocals) were marooned in San Francisco after the levee breaches following Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. After a chance encounter with fellow New Orleans evacuees Sam Price (bass, vocals) and Garland Paul (drums, vocals), and with no prospects of getting home any time soon, they figured they’d better cook up something new, and quick!

A few days later they had put together a song list, landed a weekly gig at San Francisco’s Boom Boom Room, and settled in to share a little taste of Southern culture with their new West coast neighbors. Their 7-song eponymous debut was recorded in 2006 at famed Record Plant studios in Sausalito, CA, and was received so well that the band decided to make the new group priority number one upon moving back to New Orleans in early 2008.

Honey Island Swamp Band’s music has been described as “Bayou Americana”, with timeless songs from Wilkinson & Mulé, highlighted by Mulé’s searing guitar, Wilkinson’s sure-handed mandolin, and 4-part vocal harmonies, all anchored by the powerful groove of Price & Paul’s Louisiana stomp rhythm section. The addition of Trevor Brooks on Hammond B-3 organ to the HISB family in 2010 has rounded out the band’s sound, which draws from a variety of influences in the world of roots music, including artists such as Lowell George & Little Feat, The Band, Taj Mahal, Gram Parsons, Jerry Garcia, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Reed, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, and New Orleans’ own Earl King and Dr. John.

THE LENNY FEDERAL BAND
Sep 20 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

The Lenny Federal Band Federal, formerly of the …
wait for it … Federal Bureau of Rock ‘n’ Roll (yes!)
was, along with his musical (com)patriots, a staple in
the burgeoning Charlotte rock scene of the ’70s and
early ’80s. Known for its brand of relatively
straightforward bluesy originals and for its good taste
in classic cover tunes, the Federal Bureau always
resisted making the move to the Allman Brothers-like
sound so many of their Caucasian compatriots did,
in favor of keeping it simple. Federal, a cornerstone cog in the Charlotte music scene, hasn’t changed that recipe a whole lot of the years. Forgive the food metaphor, but it’s musical meat and potatoes you’re getting here – meat and potatoes slow-cooked with plenty of care, and with but a soupcon of spice. Appearing at The Comet Grill (Timothy C. Davis) a cornerstone cog in the Charlotte music scene, hasn’t changed that recipe a whole lot of the years. Rodney Crowell: The TEXAS Tour
Sep 21 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

With more than 40 years of American roots music under his belt, Texas native RODNEY CROWELL is a two-time Grammy Award winner with five Number One hits of his own and a legacy of songwriting excellence which has made him an icon among giants. With strong roots in country music, Crowell has written chart-topping hits for the likes of Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Keith Urban and more. But owing to the distinctly universal, literary quality of his writing, has also penned beloved songs for artists as diverse as Bob Seger, Etta James, the Grateful Dead, John Denver, Jimmy Buffett and countless others. A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Crowell is also the author of the acclaimed memoir, Chinaberry Sidewalks, and teamed up with New York Times best-selling author Mary Karr for Kin: Songs by Mary Karr & Rodney Crowell in 2012, with Karr saying of her collaborator, “Like Hank Williams or Townes Van Zandt or Miss Lucinda, he writes and croons with a poet’s economy and a well digger’s deep heart.” Crowell was honored with ASCAP’s prestigious Founder’s Award in 2017, and that same year released the album Close Ties, which spawned another Grammy nomination for “It Ain’t Over Yet” with Rosanne Cash and John Paul White in the category of Best Americana Song. In 2018, he opened his own record label, RC1, and released his Acoustic Classic project. His new album TEXAS will be released on August 15, 2019.

THE LENNY FEDERAL BAND
Sep 27 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

THE GET RIGHT BAND
Sep 28 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

he Get Right Band has been described as a funk-rock-reggae band, they’ve been described as a psychedelic-indie-rock band, and they’ve been described as a jam band. While they are indeed all of these things, they are fiercely determined to not be pigeon-holed by any style or label. They are shapeshifters, focused on following their muses to honest self-expression, to whatever excites them and pushes them into unexplored territory. The Get Right Band proudly carries the torch for a long line of genre-bending power trios from Cream to The Jimi Hendrix Experience to The Police to Violent Femmes to Primus to Green Day to Nirvana to Sublime. It’s the space between the notes, the rawness and the maneuverability, that makes a power trio, well, so damn powerful.

The Get Right Band’s career highlights include shows with Everclear, Rusted Root, Dr. Dog, Smash Mouth, Ozomatli, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Victor Wooten; appearances on NPR’s World Cafe and Nashville’s Music City Roots television show; and performances at major festivals and venues including FloydFest, StrangeCreek, Riverbend Fest, The Orange Peel, Brooklyn Bowl, and The Hamilton.

The band is built on the musical brotherhood that guitarist/vocalist Silas Durocher and bassist Jesse Gentry have formed playing music together since middle school. Durocher, who is a trained composer and has been commissioned to write for symphonies and chamber groups, has guitar chops that can soothe or rage and a charismatic swagger as a frontman and a singer. “Durocher has an impressive range and rich clarity to his vocals—think a more soulful Dan Auerbach” (Connect Savannah). Gentry’s virtuosic bass playing “catapults from elastic to nasty” (The Mountain Xpress). With the addition of Jian-Claude Mears, a drummer with “precision, passion, and an inescapable momentum” (Live For Live Music), the group’s sound has become an unstoppable force. They have been wowing audiences around the country and the Caribbean since their inception in 2011 with an unparalleled live show and a relentless tour schedule.
