Jarekus Singleton at The Music Yard
Jun 21 @ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

he Music Yard presents The Jarekus Singleton Band Thursday, June 21 with opening act The Holdouts. Tickets are $10/advance and $15/door.

At just 30 years old, Jarekus Singleton is a musical trailblazer with a bold vision for the future of the blues. Springing from the same Mississippi soil as Charley Patton, Muddy Waters and B.B. King, Singleton’s cutting-edge sound—equally rooted in rap, rock and blues traditions—is all his own.

He melds hip-hop wordplay, rock energy and R&B grooves with contemporary and traditional blues, turning audiences of all ages into devoted fans. With his untamed guitar licks and strong, soulful voice effortlessly moving from ferocious and funky to slow and steamy to smoking hot, Singleton is a fresh, electrifying bluesman bursting at the seams with talent.

“A great, new blues talent…young, original, soulful and intense…superb, blistering guitar” –BLUES & RHYTHM

“Jarekus Singleton is making some serious blues noise…blending modern-day blues and emotionally intense soul with melodic, hot-toned lead guitar, funk-seasoned rhythms and hip-hop flavored lyrics” –LIVING BLUES

‘Stinging blues guitar and potent, original songs herald the emergence of a major new talent.’ – USA TODAY

Wicked Powers at The Gin Mill
Jun 21 @ 10:30 pm – 11:30 pm
Wicked Powers is an Acoustic duo from Charlotte, North Carolina. We have been playing professionally for over 8 years in different groups such as jazz big bands, Rock Quintets, and funk trios. We incorperate the use of percussion and the harmonica into our show, which we’ve been told gives us a very unique sound for an acoustic duo. We play a wide variety of cover songs, and have been known to bust out very obscure songs such as bel biv devoe’s ‘poison’. We are both songwriters and though we play an majority of cover songs, we still find room to slip our originals in.

Jun 23 @ 10:30 pm – 11:30 pm
Charlotte’s premier country act is Early Ray! To have only been playing 3 years, this energetic young act has already made a huge impact on the scene! Often compared to contemporary acts like Zac Brown Band and Jason Aldean, they can also scale their show back to a more throwback style in the vein of Old Crow Medicine Show and Mumford and Sons. Depending on what your needs are we can arrange the band and set to fit any occasion.

Haywire at Mac’s Speed Shop
Jun 29 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

South End Location!

Haywire formed in Charlottetown in 1981 by David Rashed, Paul MacAusland, Marvin Birt, Scott Roberts and Ronnie Switzer. In 1984 they won the Q104 Homegrown Vol. 1 contest; the first prize was the chance to record a single, but they took the opportunity to invest their own money and record a 5-song EP, which eventually sold over 5,000 copies in the Maritimes. In 1985 they won the Labatt’s Battle of the Bands, and used the $10,000 first prize to record more material. While the band member lineup had been largely unaltered from the start, drummer Sean Kilbride was the fourth drummer in the group’s short history. Ron ‘Bumble’ LeBlanc had replaced the original Haywire drummer Scott Roberts in 1984. He remained with the band through their demo stages, EP, and can be heard playing on two cuts of the band’s first record with Attic. LeBlanc was replaced by Mac Cole when he decided to move on from the group and pursue a formal education. Cole only played two months with the band, when Haywire’s long-time friend Kilbride became available for the job. In the summer of 1986 the group signed up Kilbride and successfully pursued a record contract with Attic.

Chris Moreno at Hoppin
Jul 28 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Chris Moreno is a Nashville based singer/songwriter, and recording artist, who in just a short time has been making waves as an up and coming artist to watch. His honest sound and sincere delivery connect with fans on a personal level. At its core, Moreno’s music is a genuine reflection of his real life experiences and down-to-earth personality. As one reviewer put it, his songs “draw in the listener as if a deep secret or universal truth is about to be revealed.”

Moreno’s music mixes elements of a modern country sound with a noticeable Pop/Rock edge, and Moreno brazenly wears the alternative rock influences of the 90’s and 2000’s on his sleeve. The result is a unique sound that feels both fresh and familiar at the same time. Following the success of his debut album, “Into the Sun” in 2016, Moreno released a follow-up EP “Into the Night” – in May 2018. This time around he partnered with Nashville producer, Jonathan Roye (Kelsea Ballerini, Jacob Davis), to harness his eclectic sound.

Canaan Cox at Hoppin
Aug 24 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Canaan Cox is truly a manifestation of the phrase “hard work pays off.” With a “rules are meant to be broken” attitude, this NC bred country star has taken Nashville by storm. Having only lived in music city for little over a year, he’s made more waves in the town than even he thought were possible.

“People kept saying this was a 10 year town – that lit a fire for me. It made me want to prove them wrong.” Cox is surely off to the races. His debut single “Lie” charted in the first 2 weeks on Music Row and became one of the Top 20 most added songs there.

Shimon Moore former lead singer of  Sick Puppies

When Shim Moore first began writing solo music, a piece of early career advice stuck with him.
He recalls, “Somebody once told me, ‘When you’re making music, the difference between good and great is blood. If you bleed on a record, people are going to hear it. If you don’t, people are going to hear it too’.”
Truth is, Shim’s blood courses through every song he’s ever written and recorded. Millions of fans worldwide connected to his songwriting, spirit, and soul across four full-length albums from the RIAA platinum-certified Sick Puppies—which he founded in 1997. Following his split from the group during 2015, the Australia-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and producer did what he does best: write.

Firehouse, with Smiling Dogs
Mar 30 @ 8:15 pm

FireHouse has been rockin’ for over 25 years. Their music has taken them all over the world and has produced Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum records in the United States and countries abroad.
In 1990, their first album, entitled FIREHOUSE, was released. The band’s first single, “Shake & Tumble”, had impressive radio success. The band then released “Don’t Treat Me Bad”, which became their first top ten hit. This was followed by “Love of a Lifetime”, which also entered the Top Ten, reaching the #3 spot on the United States charts. This string of hits vaulted their first album to double platinum status in the United States. At the 1991 American Music Awards, FireHouse found themselves standing before the nation accepting the award for Best New Hard Rock/Metal Band, chosen over Nirvana and Alice in Chains.
The band’s second album, HOLD YOUR FIRE, was released in 1992. It produced the hits “Reach For The Sky” and “Sleeping With You”. Another top ten hit, “When I Look Into Your Eyes”, peaked on the United States charts at #6. This album earned the band platinum sales in the USA and over a million more worldwide.
In 1995, FireHouse released their third album on Epic Records, simply titled 3. Once again, FireHouse produced another Top Forty Hit in the United States with “I Live My Life for You”. It was with this album that FireHouse made their first trip to Southeast Asia for a promotional tour. Earlier American hits like “Don’t Treat Me Bad”, “Love of a Lifetime” and “When I Look into Your Eyes” had climbed the charts in Asia. “Here for You”, the second single from 3, had also become a hit. The band then continued their promotional tour in South American countries such as Brazil and Argentina.
Their fourth album, GOOD ACOUSTICS, was released in 1996 and quickly went gold in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, and Philippines. GOOD ACOUSTICS contains unplugged versions of the group’s greatest hits, as well as four new songs. This album produced foreign hits such as “In Your Perfect World”, “Love Don’t Care”, and “You Are My Religion”. The band returned to Southeast Asia for another promotional tour at the end of 1996. Then, in February 1997, FireHouse embarked on their first concert tour of Southeast Asia playing sold out shows for fans in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan. During May and June they toured the United States before returning to Southeast Asia in July for an unprecedented twenty five city sold out tour of Indonesia.
