Jay Som announces new album ‘Anak Ko,’ shares new single “Superbike”

Just about two years ago, Jay Som (aka Melina Duterte) dropped an unassuming and overall fantastic debut LP with Everybody Works. It put her on a ton of people’s radar, and wound up making its way to a number of best-of-the-year lists. Since then, she’s gone on to casually drop some really great one-off singles as well as a pretty great collaborative EP with Justus Proffit. And now she’ll continue not slowing down because she’s just announced that her sophomore full length album is on the way.

Titled Anak Kothe new album will be headed our way August 23 via the always great Polyvinyl Records. The title, pronounced Anuhk-Ko, means “my child” in Tagalog, and originally came about because that’s the term of endearment Duterte’s mom uses for her. The reason it makes a good title? As Duterte explains in a press release, she sees the creation and releasing of an album akin to birthing a child. Thus, we have Anak Ko.

Ahead of the album’s release, Jay Som has gone ahead and shared the lead single “Superbike.” As expected, it’s a gorgeous song built around shoegaze-like sounds and Duterte’s beautifully composed singing and songwriting. You can check out the lyric video for the track right down below. Also below you’ll find the album art and full tracklist for Anak Ko as well as the full list of upcoming live dates that were also just announced. Yeah, it’s a lot of information to take in, but you should be thankful because more Jay Som in your life is a very good thing.
