Just yesterday, Local Natives delivered on their promise of new material with new single “Café Amarillo.” At the time, it was all they had shared. It looked as if the wait for an album announcement was going to be a little while, but turns out we just had to wait a day. Today Local Natives surprised everyone with the official announcement of their newest album. The new LP is titled Violet Street and is due out in just about two months time, arriving on April 26 via Loma Vista. They could have kept the surprise at that, but instead the band opted to drop a second single from the forthcoming project.
Much like “Café Amarillo,” the new single “When Am I Gonna Lose You” features a beautifully shot video from director Van Alpert. In this one, we don’t see the band, but instead get scenes of actress Kate Mara wandering around looking lavish yet utterly lonely. Much like yesterday’s new single, this one is another grooving track full of nice instrumental work from all Local Natives members. It’s another track that traffics in some sort of mellow sadness, yet remains fairly bright and catchy regardless. It’s also a good indication that Violet Street might be the sound of a band fine-tuning what’s worked on previous releases, while delivering something fresh and exciting at the same time.
