Lucy Dacus is a name that has graced this site time and time again, and for good reason. 2018 was easily her biggest year yet, shooting her name up into the ears of many who missed out when her debut came out. But last year, Dacus started the year with her sophomore album Historian, and ended the year by forming a supergroup with Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers known as Boygenius. Both Historian and the Boygenius EP are some of the finest music released in 2018. Just take a look at almost any year-end list and you’ll find one or both present. 2019 was set to be a more tour-heavy year for Dacus, but today she’s shared news of releasing more new music in the form of a holiday singles series.

The new series of singles, simply titled 2019, are set to roll out throughout the year. Eventually it’ll all be packaged together as a physical EP. Each single is said to be a cover or original song inspired by/directly related to a corresponding holiday. Thus far, we know she’ll be tackling: Mother’s Day, Independence Day, Bruce Springsteen’s Birthday, Halloween, Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day (whose corresponding single dropped today. Ahead of the love-filled holiday, Dacus has shared a cover of the great Édith Piaf song “La Vie En Rose.”

Speaking about the choice of cover, Lucy Dacus shared these words:

“From the first time I heard it, I thought “La Vie En Rose” was a perfect song. Hearing it, I knew that, one day, I would fall in love. I want someone to listen to this while running at top speed to the doorstep of the person they adore, ready to profess their deep, undying love. (PS, there’s a longer story about singing this song as a duet with my middle school janitor, but it is not concise).”

The songs that’ll make up 2019 were recorded over the past two years (probably during some of the busiest times Lucy Dacus has experienced yet). Not tracklist for the EP has been shared yet, but it’ll be wise to simply keep your ears open around the upcoming holidays. Also, what are you waiting for??
